Fun-sized Fashion

Building a sense of style usually takes years of trial and error. I still think back to my childhood, cringe at most of the outfits I wore and yell at my mom for letting me out of the house. My outfits never matched and usually consisted of some type of hideous soccer T-shirt—back in the day, I was a tomboy. Today, children have stepped up their fashion game. I have begun to envy the closets of kids that are one-fourth of my age. Yes, I am jealous of a five-year-old. These tiny trendsetters are taking styles from the red carpet onto the playground and their cuteness factor is at an all time high. Here are a few of my favorite stylish nuggets. Warning: The level of mini-chic is mind-blowing. You are about to say “aweeee” for the next couple of minutes.

Why hello,  child Chuck Bass. You can never go wrong with a baby bow tie and blazer.
While her classmates eat glue and wear their shoes on the wrong feet this girl is killin' it being a mini-model.
Denim on denim never looked so adorable.
Instafamous kid, Alonso Mateo gives the grown men of GQ a run for their money. With his Gucci belt and mini suit tailored to perfection, this five-year-old should be the envy of every guy.

Meet Alexander Wang's niece, Aila.

Taking wardrobe advice from Miley Cyrus' lyrics in "23," Alia's got her mini skirt with her J's on.

Runway to Reality

This year one of the trends that appeared on runways across the world was the fur vest.

Marc Jacobs was one of the designers who featured the fur vest. In his show, he paired a tan fur vest with a red mid-calf dress and red heels. The model wearing this specific creation exudes elegance and a sense of importance.

While you may love this look, you can’t exactly wear the same exact outfit out and about to run errands. So, in order to make this trend wearable for everyone, take a casual mid-thigh dress and put the fur vest on top. Then pair it with some cute booties and tights to make it something that you can wear to the store or to go out with friends.

Everything Emmy's!

Last night celeb-crazed people everywhere tuned in to watch their favorite actors and actresses cross the stage to receive the golden, glorified Primetime Emmy…but more importantly watched to see what they wore on the red carpet. Here are some trends that I spotted:

The color trends of the night were:
Emerald with Envy
Emerald-hued gowns seemed to be a favorite last night with celebrities like Mayim Bialik from The Big Bang Theory in Oliver Tolentino, Sarah Hyland from Modern Family in CH Carolina Herrera, and Anna Chlumsky from Veep in Badgley Mischka.

Blushing Beauties
Other color trends spotted were blushy, pastel pinks. Modern Family’s Julie Bowen is perfection in a pale pink Zac Posen gown while Rose Byrne killed it in a blush Calvin Klein Collection number.

A Case of the Blues
Comedy queen Tina Fey wears a Narciso Rodriguez gown in the bold hue while Rocsi Diaz is in Michael Costello and Allison Williams look chic and effortless in Ralph Lauren

The style trends of the night were:
Curvy Cuts
Large, wavy, ruffle-esque silhouettes were prominent last night including Linda Cardellini in Donna Karan Atelier and Julie Bowen again wearing a blush hued Zac Posen and nailing two trends in one. werk, girl!

Leggy Sheers
Sheer gowns covering just enough leg before it’s too risqué seems to be a popular trend right now. Julianne Hough dazzles in Jenny Packham. Lena Headey stuns in a black sheer gown, and Leslie Mann looked fab in a sleek J. Mendel geometric gown with thigh high sheers.

Other trends spotted throughout the night:
oversized cocktail rings, ruby red lips, emerald green costume jewelry, solid colors, loose curls

What were your favorite looks of the night? We want to hear what you think!

The Next Target Collab Is...

Hello, Fashionistas!
Within the first ten minutes of its opening, Target shelves around the country were bare after people flocked to pick up items from the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target collaboration line. Those who secured their spots well before sunrise got the first pick of the collection while shoppers who arrived after the doors opened unfortunately missed out on most of the good stuff. I’m sure everyone who did pick something up will be flaunting their goods for everyone to see…and envy.
Unfortunately, the 3.1 Phillip Lim line is only in stores for a limited time. It has already been confirmed that Target will not be restocking the collection. However, Target representatives are well aware of our (affordable) designer needs and, thankfully, our needs will be satisfied soon.
But wait..does that mean..
Yes – another designer collaboration is in the works!
Target has recently announced they will be partnering with British designer Peter Pilotto for an inspiring spring line that will hit stores on February 9. Judging from his past collections and the First Look video, uploaded by Target only a few days ago, it’s anticipated that this spring line will be full of bright colors, geometric shapes and interesting silhouettes.
We at Fashion Board are extremely excited about this upcoming collection!
Is anyone else already anticipating spring? We want to hear your thoughts!

Celebrities Spotted at NYFW

Well fashion lovers, that special time of year has come and passed. The tents in New York have been taken down, and the city can go on with its daily routine once again. New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2014 has ended, but the talking has only just begun! We have spotted our favorite celebrity outfits from the week:

GIULIANA RANCIC: We are loving this new bob on the ever-so-lovely TV personality as she kicks off fashion week in a white lace-detailed cocktail at the BCBG Max Azria show. Who says you can’t wear white after labor day?! (White was also a HUGE trend on the runway for Spring/Summer 2014)

NICOLE RICHIE: Designer Nicole Richie shows us that the crop top.....is here to stay! It was shown all over the runway for Summer/Spring 2014. Richie really shows how to keep a crop top classy in this Antonio Berardi ensemble!

RACHEL ZOE: This stylist-turned-designer looks comfy, classy, and as happy as ever in a baby-bump covering gown at this year’s Style Awards. As if the baby news wasn’t exciting enough, she was also awarded Stylist of the Year! What a major moment.

JESSICA ALBA: This elegant actress made her way to the Ralph Lauren show wearing a simple baby-pink chiffon skirt paired with a cropped sweater. Alba made a statement wearing her cat-eye sunglasses...giving off a 1950’s look. The simplicity of her hair and shoes compliment her outfit beautifully.

Unofficially dubbed on twitter as "Fashion Week's Favorite Couple" John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen match in all black ensembles as they sit front row at Badgley Mishcka.

Olivia Palermo, Ashley Greene, and Katie Cassidy: this fierce, front row threesome show us what sexy should look like: all black, dark lips, and an attitude. All black is always in style and looks good on everyone.

Gossip Girl reunion: Taylor Momsen reunites with TV-stepmom Kelly Rutherford at NYFW. Both look great with sleek, blonde buns and black cocktails. Taylor looks better than ever as she changes her very black smokey eye out for a more natural look.

Nick, Joe, and Kevin Jonas: These fashion-forward brothers make a statement at NYFW. Nick went for a bold look in a dark green suit. Joe looks great in an embellished shirt and Kevin follows his younger brother and opts for a dark green button down.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST...

HARPER BECKHAM: Okay, I just had to include baby Harper because, let’s be honest...how could I not? Even Anna Wintour couldn’t deal with her adorableness as she watched her mommy’s collection walk the runway! Harper’s tiny top knot and toddler-chic pleated dress scream mini fashionista! The jealousy is real people...
